Condemned Power Poles

When it comes to electrical work, few things are more challenging than working on essential energy projects. Recently, our team took on a particularly complex job. The work involved condemned poles and master-subtractive metering. This required us to re-do all the overhead cabling on a farm and go underground.

Condemned poles and master-subtractive metering also involved installing a new main switchboard in the process. We didn’t just tackle one building. We did the house, the workshop, and the shearing shed, making sure everything was up to code and functioning as it should.

Master Subtractive Metering

For those who may be unfamiliar with the term, master subtractive metering is a process where there’s a meter box on a transformer pole. Metered mains are then split out over the property to the buildings. Those buildings typically have their own metering as well. The master meter does the overall read, and the subtractive meters are then individually subtracted from that master meter, with the owner paying the rest.

However, this can cause problems for smart metering. As it can’t get accurate reads or still have to attend the property. Additionally, it’s usually smaller grade cables, which means solar can’t be utilised back into the grid efficiently. And it causes issues with off-peak energy usage.
